Teenage drummer and rock mom The Mothermold concoct their unique brand of “metallic art punk” in a backyard studio in Austin, Texas. Visual artist Lalena Fisher, formerly of NYC’s The Color Guard and The Hissyfits, plays guitar while high school freshman Annika kicks serious butt on drums. They named their project after the supportive outer shell of a sculptural mold, as a metaphor for their relationship. The Mothermold is an experiment in superimposing a mother-daughter bond on the stereotypically male “rock band” trope. Both sing and write songs that fuse metal, punk, prog and pop, while exploring ideas of coming of age, love, mythology, science, and heroines.

The Mothermold released their debut album Flesh of My Flesh in the fall of 2022. Begun during the pandemic lockdown of 2020 when Annika recorded her drum tracks at age 12, the album was completed two years later with final vocal tracks — and Annika's voice had changed. Flesh of My Flesh vibrates with hooks, harmonies, and heavy guitars; and traverses from triumph to joy to despair and back. Lalena sees the album as a gift to her daughter. “I like the fact that we’re making something together now that she’ll always have — even after I’m gone.” Annika’s perspective is more of the present: “It’s amazing that I can be in a band with my mom, and eventually come out with an album!”

Right before the album release, The Mothermold were honored to open for Harry Styles on the Hulu patio stage at the Moody Center in Austin. They have performed in New York at the Amityville Music Hall and Footlight Underground at the Windjammer; the Highland Lakes Equality Fest; as well as numerous Austin venues including at Empire Control Room for the YouTube Presents DIY Showcase, the ABGB, The Parlor, and the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

“Killer grunge from this mother-daughter combo with in-your-face riffing and gutsy vocals.”
– Bandcamp Daily, New & Notable

“‘Mary Jane’ is a big rocker that dips heartily into metal while staying true to both punk and art rock.”
If It's Too Loud...

“‘GoddessInOrbit’ sounds great, and the flute sounds beautiful!”
